Paying RN Specialties and Settings
By
Debra Wood, RN, contributor
As a student nurse, it never hurts to pay
attention to the regions and specialties
that are the most lucrative within the
nursing field. Staying abreast of national
salary information helps student nurses
plot their career directions and make
informed job choices as they enter the
workforce.
As a general rule, more education, supply
and demand, and relative responsibility
contribute to higher salaries, but earning
potential should be just one consideration
when choosing to specialize.

Social
Networking in Nursing School
It is
rare to find a college student in America who is
not on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or many of the
other social networking sites available today.
Social networking has become a part of our daily
lives and not only do we have access on our
laptops or home computers, but now we also have
constant access on our smart phones. There is not
a moment that occurs during our day where we do
not have the ability to blog, post, or tweet about
it. With all of this access, not only are our
friends able to view what we post, but also our
professors and school administrators. How do we
balance this freedom of social networking, while
being professional at the same time?

CLINICALS: Cooling Post-Cardiac-Arrest - Saving
the Heart and Brain
The
2010 AHA Guidelines for resuscitation have a new
emphasis on post-arrest patient care. A new
hallmark practice is the emphasis on cooling
arrest patients. As you know, hypothermia has been
shown to preserve tissue and is commonly used in
many types of surgical procedures. Therapeutic
hypothermia in the post-arrest patient can help
preserve both cardiac and brain function.

5
Ways to Stay Healthy and Energized this
Summer
|
|
Incorporate
foods into your diet that promote brain
health -- try pomegranate, salmon, nuts,
seeds, beans and whole grains.
|
Aim for
at least eight hours of sleep a night
and try to go to bed and wake up around the
same time every day.
|
Stay
hydrated! Drink water or other low-calorie
drinks such as green tea throughout the day.
|
Get
some exercise most days of the week. Shoot
for at least 30 minutes a day of physical
activity.
|
Get
outside and enjoy the summer! Take a walk,
try a new sport or have a healthy picnic in
the park. Recharging before a new school
year is what summer is all about!
