AONE Foundation Announces 2013 Grant Recipients

March 18, 2013 - The AONE Foundation for Nursing Leadership Research & Education (AONE Foundation), a 501(c)(3) supporting organization of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), has announced the recipients of its 2013 research seed grant awards and the Michael Warner Nurse Staffing and Outcomes Research Grant. The recipients were selected from grant proposals submitted by both AONE members and nonmembers. The recipients will be honored during the AONE 46th Annual Meeting and Exposition, March 20-23, 2013 in Denver.

AONE Foundation Research Seed Grants

The AONE Foundation’s research seed grants provide up to $10,000 to support research projects related to nursing administration practice in the areas of workforce, work environment, leadership development, technology and informatics, health systems, patient safety and evidence-based management practices. 

The 2013 research seed grant recipients include:

  • Shirley A. Sargent, PhD., RN, NE-BC, practice specialist, Regional Nursing Research Program, Southern California Patient Care Services, Kaiser Permanente, Pasadena, Calif.
    Project title: Essential Characteristics of the Chief Nurse Executive: A Phenomenological Study
  • Ellen Swartwout, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, PhD(c), student, George Mason University School of Nursing, Fairfax, Va., and Margaret Rodan, PhD, research associate professor, associate dean, Master’s Division,
    George Mason University School of Nursing, Fairfax, Va.
    Project title: Nurses’ Emotional Response and Disclosure of Errors Following Mistakes in Clinical Practice

The AONE Foundation’s Michael Warner Nurse Staffing and Outcomes Research Grant, sponsored by Cerner Clairvia, supports a novice nurse researcher studying the adoption of innovative technology in nurse staffing and scheduling to meet patients’ and families’ needs and the relationship to quality and cost outcomes in the practice setting.

This year’s grant recipient:

  • Valerie Moore, MSN, RN, nursing informatics specialist, Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio
    Project title: Dynamic Patient Events: Impact on Nursing Workload, Staffing, Adverse Events and Omissions of Nursing Care

The AONE Foundation will begin accepting applications for 2014 grants in August 2013.
