An entrepreneur is an individual who starts his or her own business, assuming all risk and responsibility.

A consultant is an individual who provides specialized, expert services on an hourly, per-project or contract basis. Either may work in any aspect of the health care/medical industry.

An entrepreneur/consultant is generally independent, flexible, autonomous and has creative freedom [within boundaries set by the client].

Essential skills include but are not limited to: Self-motivating ability, ambition and determination, excellent communication skills, self-confidence and a willingness to take risks and make important decisions.

The challenge of these positions include: A lack of stable income, responsibility for his or her own health benefits/insurance and isolation from standard workplace environments.

A well-rounded education is extremely helpful.
