Preparation for nurse informatics includes roles in data analysis, systems management, software design, training, systems installation, sales, marketing and medical library science.
As a nurse informatic, an individual has the opportunity to be a part of a growing field. The primary requirements are general familiarity of with computers and software applications. Degree programs are available, but not required to enter the profession.
Job opportunities include positions at health care facilities, computer hardware/software companies, educational institutions, regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical/research facilities and health care consulting firms.
