Minnesota Board of Nursing Approves Rasmussen College Professional Nursing Program

Nov. 9, 2009 - The Minnesota Board of Nursing has approved the Associate’s in Professional Nursing degree program, offered through the Rasmussen College School of Nursing at its Mankato, Minnesota campus. The U.S. Department of Labor recently identified registered nursing as the fastest growing occupation through 2013, with employment of professional nurses expected to increase 23 percent by 2016. The new program at Rasmussen College addresses the shortage of nursing programs by providing an additional option for students.

The Mankato nursing program is designed to prepare students to sit for the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurses) exam, which is required in order to obtain a Minnesota nursing license and practice as a registered nurse. It combines academic principles and practical skills development to prepare students to work in fast-paced environments providing acute care to patients in a wide range of healthcare settings.

“Professional Nurses are the largest group of healthcare workers in the United States,” explained Rasmussen College Campus Director John Pappas. “Our Associate’s in Professional Nursing degree will help alleviate the dire need for board-approved training programs for incoming nursing professionals.”

Professional nurses are the primary point of contact between the patient and physicians and are a vital component of the nation’s healthcare system. Nursing students can complete the Associate’s in Professional Nursing degree program in eight quarters through Rasmussen College. The Nursing labs at the Mankato campus house modern equipment used by professional nurses and are ideal settings for entry-level nurses-in-training.

The Professional Nursing program is the second nursing degree offered through the Rasmussen College School of Nursing. The college also offers a Practical Nursing degree program.
